Biographical Sketch

Bi-Jie was born (1984) and raised up in southern China. In 2003, he began his undergraduate studies at Peking University and conducted undergraduate research in Prof. Zhang-Jie Shi’s lab. He obtained his bachelor degree with high honors in chemistry in 2007. In the same year, he began his graduate studies and worked with Prof. Zhang-Jie Shi at Peking University. In the Shi group, he developed a variety of methods for selective functionalization of inert C-O and C-H bonds. In the summer of 2012, he moved to University of California, Berkeley where he conducted his postdoctoral work in Prof. John Hartwig’s group. While in Berkeley, he worked on catalytic amidation and silylation of aliphatic C-H bonds. In July 2015, Dr. Li started his independent career in the chemistry department at Tsinghua University as an associate professor. His group aims to combine organometallic chemistry and physical organic chemistry to tackle challenging problems in organic synthesis. Currently, his research interests focus on ligand design, alkene functionalization and mechanistic studies.
