Beijing (formerly romanized as Peking) is the capital city of China. The weather in late August is usually quite pleasant. Combining both modern and traditional architectures, Beijing is one of the oldest cities in the world, with a rich history tracing back three millennia. With mountains surrounding the inland city on three sides, in addition to the old inner and outer city walls, Beijing was a perfect location for the imperial capital and has served as the political headquarter of the country for most of the past eight centuries.
The city is renowned for its famous scenic spots, including many temples, gardens, walls, and gates. It has seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites – the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, the Ming Tombs, Zhoukoudian, parts of the Great Wall, and the Grand Canal – all are popular locations for tourism. With many of the top universities, research institutes, and high-tech enterprises, Beijing is also renowned for higher education, scientific research, and innovation.
The site proposed for the conference is the Friendship Hotel of Beijing, which is one of the largest garden-style hotels in Asia. Located in the heart of Zhongguancun High-Tech Zone, the Friendship Hotel neighbors many world famous tourist sites (such as Yuanmingyuan Park and the Summer Palace) and universities (such as Tsinghua University and Peking University). Conferences and banquets from 10 up to 800 people can be well accommodated in the Hotel, with large modern auditoriums for plenary lectures, small lecture halls for parallel sessions, and plenty of space for poster presentations, exhibitions, and coffee breaks.
The Chinese physical organic chemistry community is truly committed to organizing a successful ICPOC26 in Beijing. Hence, a national organizing committee, embracing representatives of the major universities and research institutes in China that are active in physical organic chemistry research, will oversee the organization of the conference, assisted by a local organizing committee. The conference program will be developed by the conference committees. Through this committee, we aim to increase the domestic and international impact of ICPOC26, maximizing its visibility to the physical organic chemistry community. The number of ICPOC26 attendees is expected to be 400-500.
